After learning that the beta version of Google's new Web Browser 'Chrome' would be released today, I think I have hit refresh about 1000 times while on the Chrome product page http://www.google.com/chrome waiting for the release. This must be what clients do as they wait anxiously for their site to launch.
Believe me when I tell you that when Apple announced the PC version of the Safari Browser I did not act this way or when even Firefox first came out. As a web developer, the announcement of a new browser is usually followed by relatively generic complaint spiced up by a lot of foul language. This is because the threat of becoming responsible for making sure our applications work in yet another browser is just about large enough to make me question why I don’t just move to Alaska and pretend I don’t know what the ‘internets’ are/is. However this one, from the big G, will get and already has gotten plenty of attention and I just had to see what was coming down the pike. It is still in beta and though Google is famous for leaving services/products in beta forever, it will be downloaded and used.
